At Arrowhead Paso Finos, we are acutely aware that not all Paso owners are show-oriented. For these Paso lovers, smooth gait and disposition are of paramount importance. At Arrowhead Paso Finos, we are committed to the pursuit of the ideal family, pleasure, sport Paso Fino which retains the spirit and intelligence of the breed as well as the smooth gait and unique disposition. Our goals are to provide well-bred Pasos who gait naturally and willingly. We produce only 1 -3 foals a year as we are a small farm, but our standards are high and we stand with other Paso farms in promoting Coral-breds as tremendous owner-rider-oriented Paso Finos.

Our Plan
First, we are working towards promoting and breeding certain bloodlines and Paso types which have proven to be strong in natural range of gait, endurance, substance, smoothness, and disposition. These Pasos are particularly suited for owner-riders who may prefer to do their own training and want natural gait bred in, not trained. We have a rare and unique opportunity in this respect as we have acquired one of the few remaining sons of the legendary Coral LaCE, Eminente de MiLE. In 2008, we also acquired another excellent breeding stallion, Fuero de Vez, who is a direct grandson of Coral LaCE through his sire, Coral de Vez, and is a son of Otra Vez - namesake of world-renown La Caballeriza Paso Finos 'de Vez'-named Paso Finos. Both of these stallions carry the remarkably strong genetics of the Coral LaCE bloodlines crossed on carefully chosen Puerto Rican bloodlines. Both of these stallions are available through A.I. to outside mares. Information is available on the Our Stallions webpage.

Eminente de MiLe typifies the famous Coral disposition, intelligence, and strength of gait and passes it on reliably to his offspring. The percentage of Coral blood carried by our Paso breeding stock will be increased through selective breeding to both Eminente de MiLe and Fuero de Vez. Through these selective breedings, we also intend to preserve the genetics of the Coral sons' and grandsons' PR maternal lines.

Fuero de Vez is a stunning chestnut stallion - solidly built without coarseness and with lots of chrome - large blaze and 4 socks. His gait is powerful, smooth, and fast. While waiting in the wings to take his sire's place in the breeding shed, Fuero has been lightly bred. An arrangement with La Caballeriza has made him available at Arrowhead Paso Finos to be showcased as the excellent athlete he is and to begin a more active role as a breeding stallion. His immediate future includes promotional events as well as competition in LD endurance rides and largo racing.

A particularly favored cross with Coral sons and grandsons is on daughters of Cantante de Omega, a son of Singer. Cantante was known as a producer of excellent broodmares as well as for his own successes. He was especially known for his tremendous endurance and willingness. We have now acquired a Cantante de Omega daughter, Jessica de Vez who will be crossed with Eminente and Fuero.

Second, we particularly prize the pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino for its smooth, accurate gait and the elegance with which it is performed. Our Pasos carry a very high percentage of PR blood and it shows in the elegant smoothness of their gait.

The Importance of Pure Puerto Rican Pasos and Their Uniquely Soft, Smooth Gait

"According to a survey done by the Puerto Rican Department of Agriculture, due to the blending of other Paso horses with the Pure Puerto Rican Paso Finos, these horses today number only about 2,500 live worldwide. Members of the Federation are working with the Puerto Rican Department of Agriculture's Commissioner of Paso Fino to make sure that these irreplaceable horses are not lost.

There are fewer than 500 Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino horses registered with the Federation and only a few breeders who have not diluted their bloodstock with horses of outside origin. These scarce and valuable horses may be hard to find, but members of the Federation believe that these horses are well worth the effort and should be treasured.
